On the occasion of April 26, the World Intellectual Property Day, the State Office of Industrial Property of the Republic of Macedonia, organized the award ceremony "Patent of the Year - 2016". The event was held in the conference hall of Hotel "Bushi" - Skopje and it was attended by the inventors, representatives of the IP rights and other representatives who are directly or indirectly involved in the protection of intellectual property rights.
In the opening remarks, the Deputy Director of the SOIP, Mr. Mite Kostov, addressed the guests and outlined the recent activities in the field of industrial property and the future activities to be undertaken in order to improve the work of the Office in order to meet the needs of the users of services provided by the Office. From the activities of the SOIP, it is still running the twinning project Strengthening the enforcement of intellectual property rights, in cooperation with the Danish Patent and Trademark Office. Within this twinning project, at the moment, there is a campaign to raise the awareness of the public for protection against counterfeited products and role and importance of the protection of the intellectual property rights. A brochure was also prepared in which are presented three successful SMEs, sharing their tips on their success as a result of the protection of the intellectual property rights. An expert from the Danish Patent and Trademark Office familiarized all the representatives, in details, with the activities within the campaign for protection against counterfeited products and intellectual property rights.
During the event, was communicated the message of the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, Mr. Francis Gurry which was given on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day and refered to: Innovations that improve the quality of the life, innovations for which there are good reasons for their creation in order to improve the quality of life - "we are continuing within the intellectual property system to support the innovation by attracting investment, we will continue to reward artists, encouraging them to develop their ideas so their new knowledge to be freely available. In the future, with the help of the innovators and their ideas, we could improve today's new technology, which would facilitate the present and future life. "
The traditional Award "Patent of the Year" for thew year 2016, was awarded to the inventor Mr. Mitre Petkovski, for the invention "Synchronized drive gear for wind turbines with two opposing rotating turbines placed on the same side regarding the generator". The inventor also addressed the guests abd inform them about the invention and its use.
