On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the State Office of Industrial Property and the adoption of the Law on Industrial Property SOIP organized a Conference on "Creating markets of the research results”.
The Conference was held on November 29, 2013 in the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle in Skopje.
The Conference was attended by Mr. Steve Thom, senior advisor at the cabinet of Mr. Francis Gurry, the Director General of WIPO and Ms. Silvija Trpkovska, in charge of the cooperation of Republic of Macedonia with WIPO; Mr. Wim van der Eijk, Vice-President of the EPO and his associates Mr. Georg Artelsmair and Ms. Minna Nikolova-Kress, responsible for the cooperation of Republic of Macedonia with EPO; as well as the Directors of the Offices in: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Serbia, Romania and Croatia.
The Confernce was opened by Mr. Anche Trifunov, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy who introduced the participant with the Government programs and strategic documents for support of innovations, entrepreneurship and competition as well as the Government policies on support of research capacities of the universities in the state. His asked the representatives of the participating countries to further their cooperation in the field of intellectual property.
Mr. Safet Emruli, Director of the State Office, in his addressing presented his vision for the future growth and development of the Office.He pointed out the challenges the Office is facing,in viewof the harmonization conditions of the supranational recognition of industrial property rights.He also referred to the cooperation with the regional Offices and expressed readiness to initiate but to also support any initiative of the other countries for affirmation and application of the university research results.
Mr Steve Thom of the World Intellectual Property Organization also addressed the public and referred to the video massage that, on this occasion, was sent by the Director General, Mr. Francis Gurry, to the State Office and Mr. SafetEmruli. At the same time he expressed his pleasure to cooperate with the Office, emphasizing the special contribution of the Office in the cooperation.
The Vice-President of the EPO, Mr. Wim van der Eijk, introduced the guests with the role of the universities in the national systems for innovation, the latest accomplishments of the EPO and their cooperation with Republic of Macedonia.At the end, he concluded that the intellectual property system is not complete on its own but it needs to serve the industry, the scientists and the researchers in order to accomplish common economic goods.He asked the present guest tofurther their cooperation in order to achieve this goal. A lecture on the topic “Creation Market from Research Results” with presentation of the conditions in Republic of Macedonia was held by Mr. AtanasKochov, Dean of the Mechanical Faculty in SKopje.In his presentation, he spoke about the legal regulation and the position of the research centers in Macedonia.The support by the Mechanical Faculty in Skopje realized in the framework of projects for support of faculty research was especially emphasized. He also referred to the cooperation with the countries that attended the conference.
The representatives of the regional Offices gave their contribution by presenting the conditions in their countries.
